DEGREE PROGRAM

This program is designed for students who sense God’s call to pastor an existing local church or plant a new one. Such ministry requires a solid foundation in Bible and Theology (42 semester hours), introductory courses in General Studies (36 semester hours) and competency in the skills required of a pastor (45 semester hours). This program includes individual and group mentoring.

Objectives

Upon completion of this 4 year pastoral theology program the student shall be able to:

  • demonstrate development of a thoughtful personal philosophy of ministry rooted in Biblical theology and cognizant of contemporary culture;
  • demonstrate an understanding of God’s specific call on his/her life and an awareness of the gifts, strengths, weaknesses and vulnerabilities he/she brings to pastoral ministry;
  • demonstrate an understanding of the Scriptures as well as the many practical and theoretical aspects of vocational Christian ministry;
  • demonstrate a basic level of competence in the practical leadership, interpersonal and communication skills expected of pastors; and
  • demonstrate an exemplary godly lifestyle and an ongoing dependence on Holy Spirit fullness.

DIPLOMA PROGRAM

Those who graduate from this program will have a sound preparation in Bible and Theology (30 semester hours), Practics (36 semester hours) and General Studies (24 semester hours). The two semesters of Pastoral Internship (3 semester hours) will help to provide the student with an understanding of the methods and skills needed to succeed in the ministry.

Fred Fulford brings a wealth of pastoral experience to Summit. Fred grew up in manses on the prairies. During studies at McGill University, he responded to God's call to pastoral ministry himself. After serving as youth pastor in Victoria BC, he and Micki pioneered Mississauga Gospel Temple in Ontario (14 years). He then served as senior pastor in Evangel Church in Kelowna, BC for 12 years before coming to Summit Pacific in 1996. Fred and Micki have two young adults of their own, JP and Rachelle.
