MUSIC PROGRAM ADMINISTRATOR

Dr. Lillian Hildebrandt
music@summitpacific.ca
Office Telephone: (604) 851-7233 or 1-800-976-8388

Lillian has taught music, worship and drama courses at the college level since 1981. She served as Music Pastor at Abbotsford Pentecostal Assembly (1986-1989) and as Corporate Worship Pastor at Pan Africa Community Church in Kenya (1995-2004). Her Masters and Doctoral theses focused on music and worship curricula in PAOC colleges. As administrator of the program, she coordinates courses and instructors, and oversees student development and progress.
Lillian Hildebrandt (nee Uzymirski) was born in Edmonton, Alberta to Christian parents - a Russian father and a German mother. Her first language was German and the family attended a German Pentecostal church. Lillian was involved in music ministry from childhood onward. This included singing in choirs, groups and a traveling band called Micah (which involved some recording). She also accompanied different groups on the piano (congregations, choirs, groups), and directed a variety of choirs. She married Wilf in 1982, whom she met at this college when he was a student. They have two children, Becky (1990) and Luke (1993).

Lillian graduated with a Bachelor of Education (Secondary Music) degree from the University of Alberta in 1980. She taught music and drama at Western Pentecostal Bible College (WPBC, now Summit Pacific College) from 1981 to 1989, and was the music department director here for the last four of those years. Teaching, administrating, developing curricula and fostering spiritual formation in the college setting is her calling.

Lillian graduated with a Master of Education (Music) degree from the University of British Columbia in 1989. Her thesis was entitled, A Study of Music Practices in the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada Churches and Bible Colleges. In addition to her work at WPBC and her master's studies, she was part-time music pastor at Abbotsford Pentecostal Assembly from 1986 to 1989. In 1989, Lillian and Wilf co-wrote a handbook entitled, An Introduction to Worship and Music in the Church.

In 1989 the Hildebrandts were appointed to be missionaries by the PAOC and moved to Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa. Lillian taught music, drama, worship and spiritual formation at Pan Africa Christian College from 1989 to 2004. She served as Pastoral Associate of Music Ministries at Pan Africa Community Church from 1995 to 2004, which involved, among other duties, leading services. She also taught at music, drama and worship seminars in Kenya during the 15 years of ministry there.

Upon returning to Canada in 2004, Lillian taught part-time at Summit in the areas of music and worship. She completed her Doctor of Education (Didactics) degree through the University of South Africa early in 2008. The title of her thesis is, Curriculum Development for Worship in the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. The focus of this research was the biblical theology of worship which uncovered the true meaning and expressions of worship (both whole-life and corporate), and worship and spiritual formation curricula and instruction at PAOC Bible colleges in Canada. Being an advocate for and facilitator of true biblical worship, both whole-life and corporate, remains her passion.

James Caswell was born and raised in Saskatchewan. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree (Mus. Ed.) from Brandon University, and a Master of Education degree from the University of Victoria. His project for his Masters Degree focused on developing recommendations and resources for effective Biblical integration in the Christian school band class. As he progressed through his education, James was invited to compete at the national level twelve times on three instruments. As a member of various ensembles, he has been recorded by CBC twice, and performed for Queen Elizabeth II.

James Caswell
However, James's greatest passion is to make music before the King. He has been active in music ministry for over 30 years, and has served as Music Pastor in churches in Manitoba, Ontario, and British Columbia. An instrumental specialist, James teaches music at Pacific Academy in Surrey, BC, conducting and instructing Concert Bands, Jazz Bands, Vocal Jazz, Concert Choir, Orchestra, Guitar, Composition, Arranging, Music Sequencing, and Worship Ensembles where he writes and arranges for all instrumentalists who wish to be involved. James has also served as K-12 Music Coordinator at Pacific Academy, providing support for five teachers in four schools. Prior to answering the call to pastoral ministry, James taught music in the public school system in Manitoba.

In BC, James co-founded and co-chaired an international worship conference for five years with LaMar Boschman Ministries called Canada Arise - Vancouver. James is a representative of the International Worship Institute in Dallas, Texas. Over the years, he has ministered alongside worship leaders and speakers such as Ron Kenoly, Bob Fitts, Bob Sorge, LaMar Boschman, Bob Kauflin, David Baroni, Joseph Garlington, Steve McPherson, Marty Nystrom, Andy Park, Mark Cole and Vivien Hibbert. James is active as a coach and clinician to worship teams in several denominations.

Since 2002, James has volunteered as the Music Pastor at Surrey Pentecostal Assembly, where he is responsible for discipleship, development, leadership and administration of the Creative Ministries program. His passion is to see the release of prophetic ministry through eight worship teams, Choir, Orchestra, productions, Praise Band, Tech Crew, and Drama.
James also serves as the leader of the Music Ministries Cluster of the BC/Yukon District of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. Music ministers meet to encourage one another, grow spiritually and musically, and to receive coaching and resources for spiritually healthy music ministries in churches across the district.

James's wife, Milli is a professional musician and educator, and gifted in ministering prophetically on piano. His daughter and son, Tori and Taylor, are very musical. They minister alongside him often on instruments, in the choir, or on vocal teams at Surrey Pentecostal.
James holds a private pilot license with an endorsement for flying at night. He enjoys playing tennis, golf, and hockey, and working out at the gym.
