The purpose of the Corporate Worship Studies program is to form students into disciples of Christ, whole-life worshipers of God,
and servants of His Church and the world, through the direction and power of God's Word and Spirit. Included in this purpose
is educating, training, equipping, providing experience and encouraging students to be effective in local church ministry
with particular emphasis on corporate worship leadership and ministry using music and the arts. With the necessary
foundation of biblical and theological studies, as well as learning to understand the mission of God's people (His Church)
and contemporary culture, the student is prepared to minister to God in a way that pleases Him and to minister to people
in the local church, community and world.

Summit Pacific offers a 2-year certificate and a 4 year degree
in Corporate Worship Studies (CWS)

4-year Bachelor of Arts in Religion degree - CWS major
 
  • 36 credit hours in Bible and Theology
  • 36 credit hours in General Studies
  • 21 credit hours in Practical Theology
  • 32 credit hours in Corporate Worship

Corporate Worship Studies Faculty and Staff

In order to deliver the courses effectively, students learn from 20 instructors including adjunct teachers,
pastors and musicians, each specialists in their field.
This exposes students to a variety of creative
gifts and styles that will enhance learning and challenge personal and spiritual development.
This program is delivered by personnel who serve in the following areas:
  • Administration: curriculum development, scheduling, instruction & program oversight
  • Music Ministry Groups: preparation for ministry in churches & college events
  • Chapel Ministry: preparation for chapel services & special events
  • Course Instruction: classroom and private lessons

Lillian has taught music, worship and drama courses at the college level since 1981. She served as Music Pastor at Abbotsford Pentecostal Assembly (1986-1989) and as Corporate Worship Pastor at Pan Africa Community Church in Kenya (1995-2004). Her Masters and Doctoral theses focused on music and worship curricula in PAOC colleges. As administrator of the program, she coordinates courses and instructors, and oversees student development and progress.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this 4 year program the student shall be able to:

  1. understand and assimilate the Scriptural purposes and uses of music in corporate worship, discipleship, education, and evangelism;
  2. demonstrate the musical and leadership skills necessary to plan and lead appropriate worship services based on Biblical principles and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, with due respect given to cultural implications, and the uniqueness of the local church;
  3. effectively supervise and direct various congregational, instrumental, and vocal music groups within the arts ministry of the local church;
  4. show evidence of appreciation for church music in its various historical and contemporary forms;
  5. knowledgeably interact with the musical forms in the world around them;
  6. exhibit an acceptable level of proficiency on the student's chosen primary instrument; and,
  7. recognize the importance of the presence and power of the Holy Spirit in personal and corporate worship, as well as in community outreach.

  • POSSIBLE EXEMPTION: MUSI 151 Music Theory I. Documentary proof of an equivalent level of music theory, sight singing and ear training proficiency is required for consideration of a placement exam that could lead to exemption. Otherwise, this course will be taken during the first semester of the program.
